Honoring the Heart of Hospitality: NJRHA Hosts 40th Awards Ceremony

The New Jersey Restaurant & Hospitality Association (NJRHA) marked a milestone moment last week, hosting its 40th Awards Ceremony at the iconic Ryland Inn in Whitehouse Station. The sold-out celebration drew hundreds of industry leaders, supporters, and advocates from across the state for an evening that blended laughter, recognition, and heartfelt gratitude.
Laughter filled the room as Stress Factory Comedy Club owner and comedian Vinnie Brand emceed the evening, setting the tone for a celebration that honored not only achievement, but the passion and people behind it.
NJRHA President & CEO Daniel Klim praised the honorees for their leadership, vision and impact on New Jersey’s hospitality community. Between presentations, Klim hosted brief fireside chats with each recipient, giving guests a candid look at the stories and inspiration behind their success.
“Each of our honorees represents what truly defines hospitality – resilience, creativity and a steadfast commitment to the people around them,” Klim said. “Their leadership builds stronger communities, empowers teams and drives New Jersey’s hospitality industry forward with passion and purpose.”
This year’s honorees included:
- Restaurateur of the Year – The Kunisch Family, Mahwah Bar & Grill and Allendale Bar & Grill
- Hotelier of the Year – Eustace Mita Jr., ICONA Resorts
- Deborah Dowdell Lifetime Achievement Award – Mike Perro, PJ Whelihan’s
- Hospitality Award – Marilou Halvorsen, American Hotel & Lodging Association
- Friend of the Industry – Dale Florio, Princeton Public Affairs Group
- Community Impact Award – Chef Jesse Jones, Private Chef, Author and Mentor
- Executive Chef of the Year – Chef Jason Hanin, The Ebbitt Room, Cape May
NJRHA Board Chair Denise Beckson reflected on the milestone anniversary of the gala and its lasting impact on the industry.
“Our honorees, and so many across this industry, have a remarkable gift for creating memories that stay with people long after they leave,” Beckson said. “Hospitality is about emotion as much as service – making guests feel seen, cared for, and part of something special.”
The evening’s reception and awards ceremony offered more than celebration – it was a reminder of how New Jersey’s hospitality professionals create moments, memories, and experiences that continue to shape the heart of the industry.
